Electric Car Range in Brazil: Updated 2026 Table

How many kilometers does an electric car really do on one charge? The answer varies a lot between models — and between what the manufacturer says and what happens on the road. Here, we gathered PBEV data and real estimates.

PBEV range vs. real range

In Brazil, the official range of electric cars is measured by the PBEV standard (the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program), conducted by Inmetro. This test is done in a laboratory, under controlled temperature and speed conditions.

In practice, the real range is usually 10% to 25% lower than the PBEV number, depending on factors such as:

  • Driving style: Sharp accelerations and speeds above 110 km/h significantly reduce range.
  • Temperature: On cold days (common in Curitiba in winter), the battery loses efficiency. Range can drop 10-20% below 10 degrees C.
  • Use of air conditioning or heating: In electric cars, climate control draws energy from the battery.
  • Topography: Curitiba and region have hilly terrain, which consumes more energy on climbs (but recovers part of it on the way down with regenerative braking).
  • Vehicle load: More passengers and luggage reduce range.

Range table: main models in Brazil

The table below gathers the best-selling electric cars in Brazil with PBEV range and a real estimate for mixed use (urban + highway):

How much range do you really need

Many first-time EV buyers worry excessively about range — the so-called "range anxiety". In practice, the urban Brazilian drives on average 40 to 60 km per day. This means that:

  • A BYD Dolphin Mini (230 real km) covers 4 to 5 days of urban use without recharging
  • A BYD Dolphin (280 real km) covers a whole week of urban commuting
  • Models with 400+ km of range are more than enough for weekend trips

Range anxiety disappears in the first week. When you realize that you charge at home every night and leave with a "full tank" every day, the logic is completely different from a combustion car.

Range on Paraná routes

If you live in the Curitiba region, here are some common routes and how electric cars behave:

Popular routes leaving Curitiba

Curitiba - Coast (Matinhos): ~110 km. Any EV does the round trip without recharging.
Curitiba - Ponta Grossa: ~180 km. An easy trip out, the return may call for a partial charge for smaller models.
Curitiba - Londrina: ~380 km. 1-2 DC charging stops needed along the way.
Curitiba - Foz do Iguaçu: ~640 km. 2-3 charging stops needed. Copel's electric highway covers the route.
Curitiba - Florianópolis: ~300 km. One fast charging stop is enough for most models.

How to maximize your EV's range

Regardless of the model, some practices significantly increase range:

  1. Drive smoothly: Progressive accelerations and constant speed are the greatest allies of efficiency. The difference can reach 30%.
  2. Use regenerative braking: Set the maximum regeneration level. In Curitiba's urban traffic, you almost never need the brake pedal.
  3. Precondition the car on the charger: Turn on the air conditioning or heating while the car is still connected to the charger. That way, climate control doesn't drain the battery.
  4. Keep tires properly inflated: Tires below the ideal pressure increase consumption by 3-5%.
  5. Avoid speeds above 110 km/h: Aerodynamic resistance grows exponentially. The difference between 100 and 130 km/h can be 20-25% in consumption.
  6. Plan routes with chargers: On trips, knowing where the charging stations are lets you charge partially and keep efficiency high.

Range and cold: the Curitiba factor

Curitiba is one of the coldest capitals in Brazil, with temperatures that can reach 0 degrees C in winter. This impacts the range of electric cars:

  • LFP batteries (BYD): Lose more efficiency in the cold than NMC, but fully recover when they warm up. Estimate: 15-20% loss on very cold days.
  • NMC batteries (Volvo, BMW): A little less sensitive to cold, with a 10-15% loss.
  • Preconditioning helps: Warming the battery before leaving (while on the charger) minimizes the loss.

In practice, even with a 20% reduction, a BYD Dolphin still does more than 220 real km — more than enough for several days of urban use in Curitiba.

The future of range: next-generation batteries

The range of electric cars has been growing every year. The technologies in development promise significant leaps:

  • Solid-state batteries: They promise twice the energy density, reaching 700+ km of range in compact cars.
  • High-density LFP cells: BYD and CATL are already testing cells that offer 20% more range in the same space.
  • Sodium-ion batteries: Cheaper and less sensitive to cold, ideal for popular urban cars.

Fast charging for any range

From 20% to 80% in less than 45 minutes. Elektro Charge in Pinhais offers 60 kW DC Fast Charging, 24h, with a dining experience.
