Price per kWh at Charging Stations in Brazil: 2026 Comparison Table

The short answer

The price per kWh at a charging station varies by network, charger type, city, time of day and subscription plan, and DC fast charging costs more than AC. To calculate a charge, multiply the kWh that entered the battery by the station's price per kWh. Check the figure in the network's app before starting the session.

How much does it cost to charge your electric car away from home? The price varies quite a bit between networks, power levels and regions. We compiled an updated comparison table for April 2026 with the main charging station operators in Brazil — and we explain how to calculate the real cost of each charge.

How billing works at charging stations

Unlike a gas station where you pay per liter, at charging stations billing can work in different ways:

  • By kWh consumed: the most common and fairest method. You pay for the energy actually transferred to the car.
  • By minute of connection: some operators charge for the time connected, regardless of the power delivered. This penalizes cars that charge more slowly.
  • Flat fee per session: rarer, it charges a fixed amount for each charging session.
  • Hybrid model: combines a per-kWh rate with a minimum fee or an occupancy fee after a certain time.

The trend in 2026 is the consolidation of per-kWh billing, which is more transparent and lets the driver calculate exactly how much they will spend. ANEEL has been discussing specific regulation to standardize billing at public charging stations.

Price table: main networks (April 2026)

The figures below represent averages charged in April 2026. Prices may vary by location, time of day and subscription plan.

Network / Operator AC (kWh) DC Fast (kWh) Coverage
Tupinambá R$ 0.99–1.30 R$ 1.69–2.19 Nationwide (largest network)
Zletric R$ 0.89–1.20 R$ 1.59–1.99 Nationwide
Shell Recharge R$ 1.10–1.40 R$ 1.79–2.29 Capitals and highways
BYD (partners) R$ 0.99–1.20 R$ 1.49–1.89 Dealerships and partners
Volvo (Plugsurfing) R$ 1.00–1.30 R$ 1.69–2.09 Dealership network
EZVolt R$ 0.89–1.15 R$ 1.49–1.89 SP, PR, SC, RS
Neocharge R$ 0.95–1.25 R$ 1.59–1.99 SP and South
Independents R$ 0.80–1.50 R$ 1.40–2.50 Varies by establishment

The average price per kWh for DC fast charging in Brazil in 2026 is around R$ 1.80. Even so, the cost per kilometer of an electric car is less than half that of a gasoline vehicle.

Comparison: charging station vs gasoline vs home

To put the numbers in perspective, let's compare the cost to cover 100 km with different energy sources:

Source Consumption Cost per 100 km
Charging at home (R$ 0.75/kWh) 15 kWh/100 km R$ 11.25
AC charging station (R$ 1.20/kWh) 15 kWh/100 km R$ 18.00
DC charging station (R$ 1.80/kWh) 15 kWh/100 km R$ 27.00
Gasoline (R$ 6.20/l) 12 km/l R$ 51.67
Ethanol (R$ 4.30/l) 8.5 km/l R$ 50.59

Savings summary

Charging at home: up to 78% cheaper than gasoline
AC charging station: up to 65% cheaper than gasoline
DC fast charging station: up to 48% cheaper than gasoline

Even in the most expensive option (DC fast charging), the electric car costs less than half to drive.

Why does DC fast charging cost more?

The price difference between AC and DC charging is not arbitrary. There are technical and economic reasons:

  • More expensive equipment: a 60 kW DC charger costs R$ 150,000–250,000 to install, versus R$ 5,000–15,000 for an AC point
  • Electrical demand: DC chargers require a high-power electrical installation, with much higher contracted-demand costs
  • Maintenance: DC equipment has more electronic components and requires specialized maintenance
  • Demand charge: the utility charges for the power made available, not just for consumption

That said, the amount you pay for the convenience of a 30-minute charge (vs 6 hours on AC) amply pays off in most travel or urgent scenarios.

Tips to save on public charging

1. Subscribe to loyalty plans

Networks such as Tupinambá and Zletric offer monthly plans with a discount on the kWh. If you use public charging stations regularly, the plan can mean savings of 15% to 25%.

2. Take advantage of off-peak hours

Some charging stations apply different rates by time of day. Charging outside peak hours (usually before 6 p.m. or after 9 p.m.) can be cheaper.

3. Charge up to 80% on DC fast charging

Since power drops significantly after 80%, the last 20% costs more in terms of R$/km added. Stop at 80% and finish at home.

4. Compare prices in the apps

Apps like Tupinambá and PlugShare show the prices of each point. Before you stop, compare the options along your route.

5. Prioritize charging at home

When possible, charge at home on the residential rate. The savings compared with a DC charging station can reach 60%. Save fast charging for trips and emergencies.

Prices in Curitiba and the metropolitan area

The Curitiba metropolitan area has prices in line with the national average, with a few advantages:

  • Copel's residential rate is among the most competitive in the South (R$ 0.70–0.80/kWh with taxes)
  • The density of charging stations in the region (445 points) creates healthy competition
  • DC charging stations in the region charge between R$ 1.49 and R$ 2.20 per kWh
  • Malls and hotels often offer free or subsidized AC charging

In Pinhais, Elektro Charge offers 60 kW DC fast charging on Av. Maringá, 24 hours a day. Beyond the competitive price, the differentiator is the experience: while the car charges, you have access to restaurants and local cuisine. It is the concept that charging time does not have to be wasted time.

The question is no longer "how much does it cost to charge an electric car?" — it is "how much do you save compared with gasoline?" And the answer is: at least 48%, always.

The public charging market in Brazil is maturing. Some observed trends:

  • Gradual decline in DC prices: with more charging stations and competition, the trend is a 10–15% reduction over the course of 2026
  • Solar energy at charging stations: operators that install solar panels can offer lower rates
  • ANEEL regulation: specific rules for energy resale at charging stations should bring more transparency
  • Corporate plans: companies are starting to offer charging as a benefit, subsidizing the cost

Frequently asked questions

How is charging billed at a charging station?

There are four models: by kWh consumed, the most common and transparent; by minute of connection; a flat fee per session; and a hybrid model, with a minimum or occupancy fee after a certain time. The trend in 2026 is billing by kWh, which lets you calculate the cost before charging.

Why does a DC fast charger cost more?

DC equipment costs far more than an AC point, requires a high-power electrical installation, has more electronic components and needs specialized maintenance. The utility also charges for the power made available, not just for consumption. You are also paying for the speed of the charge.

How can I save on public charging?

Subscribe to the networks' loyalty plans, which can give a discount on the kWh, take advantage of off-peak hours when the point has time-based pricing, charge up to 80% on DC, compare prices in the apps before stopping and prioritize charging at home when possible.

Is the price of DC fast charging likely to fall?

The observed trend is a gradual decline of 10% to 15% over the course of 2026, with more charging stations and more competition. Operators that install solar panels can offer lower rates, and companies are starting to offer charging as a benefit, subsidizing the cost for employees.

Does ANEEL regulate the price of charging?

ANEEL has been discussing specific regulation to standardize billing at public charging stations, with rules for energy resale that should bring more transparency. Until then, the price is set by each operator, and it is worth checking the figure before plugging in.
